Role Summary: The Patient Care Technician is essential in assisting registered nurses and promoting patient health and safety. This role encompasses a variety of critical functions to enhance patient care, including preparation, evaluation, and support during medical procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Greet patients, ensuring accurate identification is maintained.
  2. Prepare patients for evaluations, admissions, physical examinations, and procedures.
  3. Collect blood samples from patients of all ages, adhering to sterile techniques, and ensure proper labeling and handling of specimens.
  4. Conduct electrocardiograms (EKG) as instructed.
  5. Maintain cleanliness and functionality of all required medical equipment.
  6. Assist in the transportation of patients to various departments or units as needed.
  7. Support patient preparation, including assistance with meals or feeding when necessary.
  8. Monitor and replenish inventory in assigned areas as directed.
  9. Ensure patient rooms are ready for admission.
  10. Provide direct hygiene and comfort care to patients, including bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, and bed making.
  11. Measure vital signs upon admission under the supervision of the RN, document findings, and promptly inform the RN of any irregularities.
  12. Perform and record glucose finger sticks and collect other specimens as required.
  13. Document daily patient weights and monitor intake and output.
  14. Ensure a safe environment for patients by responding to call lights promptly and communicating any changes in the patient's condition to the RN immediately.
  15. Recognize and address the unique needs of the patient population served, taking into account factors such as age, culture, language, and sensory impairments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant, or completion of a Patient Care Technician program, including Phlebotomy, EKG, and nursing assistant training in both theoretical and practical settings.
  2. A minimum of one year of experience as a PCT or CNA in a healthcare environment is highly desirable.

Required Certifications:

  1. Current BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association is mandatory.

Interactions: Regular communication with medical personnel, patients, and visitors is expected.
