Job Summary

The Assistant Teacher plays a vital role in the overall health and safety of the children in the program. This position requires a strong commitment to forming trusting relationships with the children and contributing to the general classroom function.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in creating a nurturing environment that promotes the social, emotional, and cognitive development of young children.
  • Work collaboratively with the classroom team to plan and implement engaging activities and lessons.
  • Provide individualized support to children with diverse needs and abilities.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance skills and knowledge in early childhood education.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A High School diploma or equivalent and 9 credit hours of early childhood college coursework, including 3 hours of child growth and development.
  • A willingness to pursue a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA).
  • An Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) is preferred.
Physical Requirements

This role requires:

  • The ability to kneel to address children at eye level.
  • The ability to demonstrate motor activities that may include running, hopping, jumping, dancing, and full body motions.
  • The ability to run after a child in peril.
  • The ability to lift children in emergencies.
  • The ability to nurture children who may need consoling in the case of challenging behaviors.
  • The ability to get on the ground with children in case of fire and help them crawl to safety.
  • The ability to sometimes get kicked or hit accidentally during exuberant play.
