Job Overview

Position Summary: The Underwriter will utilize advanced underwriting principles to assess and determine pricing strategies for all group underwriting cases. This role requires the adept application of existing models for rate determination and active participation in the enhancement and development of these models. The Underwriter will adhere to established company protocols and comply with commercial medical underwriting standards. Additionally, this position involves contributing to protocol formulation and providing training to junior staff in related tasks. At management's discretion, the Underwriter may also represent the Underwriting division in corporate initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate health data from group applicants following standardized underwriting criteria.
  • Facilitate communication regarding underwriting requirements and outcomes with relevant sales teams.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all underwriting software utilized by the department.
  • Review rating software methodologies and propose enhancements or modifications to underwriting tools.
  • Understand the competitive landscape of quotes and develop strategies for financial assessments.
  • Provide training to support staff on departmental processes and practices related to group underwriting.
  • Monitor and manage exceptions with financial consequences for the organization.
  • Guide and mentor entry-level personnel.
  • Oversee the collection of all necessary data for auditing departmental activities.
  • Ensure adherence to both domestic and international insurance regulations.
  • Document departmental activities and collaborate with supervisors to establish underwriting guidelines for operational control.
  • Coordinate modifications and improvements to salesforce under the guidance of the Director of Underwriting Operations.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for underwriting in various projects.
  • Maintain organized departmental filing systems.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in health insurance underwriting practices.
  • A strong interest in the international health insurance sector.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to meet stringent deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Excel is essential.
  • Access to high-speed internet with a minimum speed of 75 Mbps is required.

Work Environment:

  • Flexibility to operate in both office and remote settings.
  • Occasional schedule adjustments may be necessary for attendance at critical business meetings or to fulfill essential job functions outside standard hours.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to effectively communicate through auditory and visual means.

Competitive base salary starting at $ annually, with compensation based on relevant experience and skill level in a similar position.
