Position Overview

The Lead Manager of Sustainable Coffee Quality is responsible for aligning our sourcing strategies with the overarching objectives of Sprudge. This role is pivotal in nurturing relationships with coffee suppliers globally, ensuring that our procurement processes meet quality standards and financial targets. The Lead Manager will closely monitor coffee pricing and logistics risks, working alongside the VP of Coffee.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sourcing and Procurement: Collaborate with the VP of Coffee to develop and implement a comprehensive coffee purchasing strategy.
  • Manage the green coffee inventory to align with financial goals, ensuring optimal levels while minimizing logistics costs.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to secure favorable pricing and volume agreements.
  • Monitor market trends and manage risks associated with coffee pricing and logistics.
  • Maintain detailed reports on green coffee metrics, including costs, inventory levels, and quality performance.

Quality Assurance:

  • Conduct sensory evaluations and cupping to assess coffee quality and identify potential sourcing opportunities.
  • Support the development of blend recipes and roast profiles in collaboration with the Quality Assurance team.
  • Ensure compliance with quality and food safety standards among suppliers.

Collaboration and Education:

  • Provide insights to Product and Marketing teams regarding coffee offerings and strategies.
  • Facilitate educational opportunities for employees to deepen their understanding of coffee sourcing and quality.
  • Engage with producer and supplier partners to enhance internal knowledge and relationships.

Qualifications

  • A genuine passion for specialty coffee.
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience, with a minimum of 5 years in coffee sourcing or trading.
  • Strong analytical skills in forecasting, reporting, and supply chain management.
  • Excellent cupping and sensory evaluation skills.
  • Proficiency in technology platforms and strong Excel capabilities.

Work Environment
