Job Summary

The Interventional Pain Management Nurse is responsible for providing care to patients undergoing treatment for spinal disorders and associated complications. This role involves close collaboration with healthcare providers to formulate an effective pain management strategy tailored to the patient's individual needs. The nurse plays a vital role in promoting and establishing standards for delivering high-quality nursing care. The Interventional Pain Management Nurse educates patients on what to expect before and after procedures, addressing any inquiries they may have. This professional consistently delivers competent direct care as part of a multidisciplinary team, responding to the diverse needs of complex patients and their families. The nurse actively seeks and provides feedback to enhance clinical practices. As a registered nurse, this individual takes on a clinical leadership role, facilitating educational opportunities for staff and pursuing mentorship in this process.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications: Must be currently licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Georgia. Current BLS and ACLS certifications are required.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Clinical Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrates foundational assessment skills. Applies the five rights of medication administration. Manages care for basic patient assignments and progresses to more complex cases. Accurately documents all aspects of the nursing process using electronic medical records as applicable. Adheres to policies and participates in maintaining a compliant work environment. Evaluates patient responses to interventions and adjusts care plans as necessary. Coordinates interdisciplinary care effectively and utilizes resources to minimize waste.
  • Position Responsibilities and Performance Expectations: Assess patients' physical and emotional needs, providing appropriate care and interventions. Develop immediate care plans in collaboration with physicians. Conduct ongoing assessments and communicate findings and care plans through written documentation and verbal reports. Administer and document medication regimens accurately.
  • Coordinate with providers and staff regarding patient care and education.
  • Assess patients and make clinical decisions regarding their immediate care.
  • Perform minor procedures within the RN scope of practice, including IV initiation/fluid therapy and assisting physicians with spinal cord stimulator removal.
  • Educate staff about interventional pain management procedures and the specific needs of patients in the outpatient setting.
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for any patient issues, complaints, or concerns related to their treatment plans.
  • Collaborate closely with the practice administrator to identify and resolve operational challenges.
  • Act as a facilitator for coordinating tasks required to process interventional pain management patients.
  • Contribute to building and maintaining staff morale through a positive attitude, professional communication, and respect for colleagues.
  • Review and ensure timely completion of tasks assigned to the interventional pain management team.
  • Respond rapidly and assume leadership in acute or unusual situations according to departmental procedures.
  • Utilize the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  • Recognize, report, and document significant changes in patient conditions promptly and accurately.
  • Identify and document conditions that may affect technical aspects of tests/procedures.
  • Prioritize patient issues appropriately, focusing on those requiring immediate attention.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of documentation requirements for all procedures, medications, and interventions.
  • Ensure all consents and documentation are completed prior to patient procedures.
  • Maintain current skills checklist and assist in performing skills assessments on other employees, providing feedback to the practice administrator.
  • Utilize clinical expertise to assist nursing staff, students, and/or new hires with challenging patient situations.
  • Engage actively in staff development during both individual and group meetings.
  • Perform satisfactorily in mock codes and other emergency preparedness drills or events.
  • Collaborate with the Practice Administrator and physicians regarding patient care and unit needs.
  • Supervise and ensure the completion of tasks assigned to ancillary/support staff.
  • Serve in a leadership role, delegating tasks appropriately to meet patient needs in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain standardization in processes across all interventional pain management locations.
  • Communicate information clearly and compassionately to patients and their families as appropriate.
