Job Summary:

Responsibilities:
  • Examine referred patients and provide high-quality medical care
  • Implement and supervise on-site chronic clinics
  • Consult with medical providers in the community to resolve issues in delivering services to inmates
  • Assume the role of primary care physician with the coordination of on and off-site care needs
  • Supervise clinical services provided by professional and paraprofessional staff
  • Visit patients housed in the medical unit and record encounters in patient progress notes using SOAP format
  • Ensure that all verbal or telephone orders are countersigned within seventy-two (72) hours
  • Utilize available in-house resource personnel for treatment or resolution of identified problems before utilizing off-site referral
  • Provide emergency treatment on-site and respond appropriately in urgent or emergency situations
  • Maintain proper certification for cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for individual judgment and actions
  • Utilize standard precautions when providing any invasive procedures for diagnostic or routine studies or handling specimens
  • Keep patient information confidential and respect patients' right to privacy, in accordance with accepted confidentiality practices for incarcerated individuals
  • Abide by security regulations of the facility
  • Notify Administrator of changes in scheduled coverage and assist in arrangement for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period of time
  • Serve as Chairperson of the Medical Audit Committee
  • Annually review and approve clinical protocols, clinical policies, procedures, and medical disaster plan
  • Assist with development of medical audit criteria
  • Oversee on-site quality assurance program, including infection control and review & action on inmate complaints
  • Serve as discussion leader for selected service training classes
  • Represent health care program in discussion with local civic groups or visiting officials
  • Monitor referrals to outside health care facilities for appropriateness, quality, and continuity of care
  • Monitor non-formulary medication utilization at assigned facility
  • Be available for resolution of administrative/medical issues
  • Assist in screening, interviewing, and evaluating credentials of health care providers
  • Ensure that all physician documentation is dated, timed, legible, problem-oriented, and signed
  • All other duties as assigned


Qualifications:
  • Completion from an accredited medical school facility with a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree
  • Completion of a US-based residency program
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state the facility is located, CDS, and DEA
