Job Summary:

The UTSW Plano Specialty Director will be responsible for overseeing the operations of our ambulatory practice, ensuring compliance with clinical care standards, and maintaining accountability for quality, safety, service, and operational excellence. This role will also involve providing leadership for initiating and monitoring change across the service line, working closely with Children's leadership, medical directors, physician providers, and other clinical staff to achieve excellence in service and clinical care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage operations of assigned service lines, ensuring compliance with standards of clinical care and maintaining accountability for quality, safety, service, and operational excellence.
  • Provide leadership for initiating and monitoring change across the service line.
  • Work closely with Children's leadership, medical directors, physician providers, and other clinical staff to achieve excellence in service and clinical care.
  • Review, analyze, and collaboratively resolve operational issues, including medical staff and patient family concerns.
  • Develop and support processes designed to engage all staff in the pursuit of operational and service excellence.
  • Monitor and analyze all performance improvement and quality data, researching best practices across ambulatory services and other organizations to continually improve the patient/family experience.
  • Establish, implement, and regularly review department policy and procedure for compliance with all regulatory requirements and alignment with organization policy and overall organization strategy and mission.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary, single-day coordinated clinics.
  • This position may require oversight of a diagnostic/support service or sub-specialty program and the associated staff and operations component.
  • This position may require oversight and coordination of service lines that are dispersed in various on- and off-site locations.
  • Responsible for building and leading a high-performing staff, selecting and evaluating staff based on their ability to contribute to organization/division/clinic goals.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, support, and training to staff.
  • Responsible for staffing, performance management, professional development, clinical competency, recruitment, and retention of staff in assigned service lines.
  • In service lines with managers or team leaders, this position is responsible for providing coaching on management and people leadership practices and ensuring compliance with all people-related policies.
  • Work with Director and/or Sr. Director to develop long-term strategic plans for assigned service lines, outlining 5- and 10-year goals for service line, and participating in planning process for program/service development and expansion.
  • Prepare an annual evaluation of the service area and proactively identify opportunities to improve the department's competitive position in the community, working with PR on marketing and communication programs as necessary.
  • Monitor and analyze financial and budgetary performance, including explanation and justification of actual vs. budget variance, overseeing initiation of capital requests and new programs, reviewing department charge master at least annually to capture additional revenue, and developing and overseeing contracts specific to areas of oversight.
  • Lead and/or participate on councils and committees as requested.

This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You may be required to float occasionally to other Children's Health locations, including Dallas, Plano, and THD Clinics.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 2 years of related experience required
  • At least 5 years of related experience preferred
  • Certified Healthcare Administrator (CHA) or Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) certification preferred
