Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Ultrasound Technologist to join our team in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department at The University of Chicago Medicine. As an Ultrasound Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality imaging services to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound procedures, selecting proper technical equipment settings and images in proper sequence according to established protocols.
  • Engage in general obstetric, high-risk obstetric, and gynecologic ultrasound procedures, performing and assisting on a variety of procedures and scans, including Level II Anatomy, Nuchal Translucency, and amniocentesis.
  • Follow directives from the Imaging Team Lead and Practice Manager to perform high-quality imaging studies.
  • Consult with the team lead and supervisor as needed to verify requests for procedures and determine the appropriate procedure protocol and method of application.
  • Employ imaging systems, accessory devices, and patient positioning techniques to generate quality images.
  • Care for patients throughout the procedure according to department and hospital standards of patient care and age-specific sensitivities.
  • Participate in lifting and transporting patients to and from the department when necessary.
  • Evaluate resultant images in comparison with industry standards and take corrective action if needed.
  • Refer to appropriate reference materials for clarification when needed and consult with the Imaging Team Lead when assistance is required.
  • Provide patient education prior to, during, and subsequent to the procedure to reduce patient anxiety and enhance their comfort zone with and tolerance of the procedure.
  • Utilize Radiology information systems in accordance with current guidelines and protocols.
  • Document imaging procedures manually and/or electronically to ensure correct charging, patient, and film file tracking.
Requirements
  • Satisfactory completion of formal Ultrasound training program through an accredited school.
  • 2 years of Ultrasound experience in obstetrics and gynecologic exams preferred.
  • Effective communication skills and excellent patient care skills required.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent teamwork and ability to work independently on call.
  • Experience with GE and Philips Ultrasound machines preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current registry by ARDMS in OB/GYN Imaging.
  • Nuchal Translucency certification within 6 months of hire.
  • CPR and BLS training required through the American Heart Association.
Work Environment

This is a full-time position with a Monday-Friday schedule, with rotating weekend and holiday on-call requirements. The work location is on-site at The University of Chicago Medicine.
