Safety Operations Manager

The Safety Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the comprehensive safety and health protocols for each assigned project. This role includes supervising the on-site personnel of subcontractors and vendors from a safety standpoint, as well as any safety representatives designated to their projects. The individual in this position acts as the main liaison for all safety-related programs and incidents, engaging directly with clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Directs safety and health initiatives for each project assigned.
- Supervises subcontractor and vendor personnel from a safety perspective.
- Proactively assists and supports team members in maintaining a safe work environment.
- Collaborates with construction operations to facilitate weekly safety meetings.
- Conducts thorough project observations.
- Communicates effectively with client safety representatives.
- Facilitates safety onboarding training for new team members.
- Investigates accidents and incidents to determine root causes.
- Reviews and comprehends all project-specific safety requirements, customer safety mandates, and organizational safety standards; ensures compliance at project sites.
- Evaluates subcontractor safety plans.
- Develops and revises safety plans as necessary.
- Ensures accurate reporting from subcontractors (e.g., Job Hazard Analyses, tailboards).
- Manages project personnel roster and guarantees adequate training for all field staff.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in a safety role within high voltage substation, transmission, and distribution construction environments.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations, resources, and inspection processes.
- Understanding of Minimum Approach Distances (M.A.D.).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical system One Line drawings.
- Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Strong problem-solving and evaluation skills.
- Effective and professional interaction with team members.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer applications.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a safety-related field.
- OSHA 10 and 30 certifications.
- AED/CPR/First Aid training and certifications.
- Relevant safety certifications (ASP, CSP, OHST, CHST, CUSP, etc.).
