About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to fill the position of Resource Teacher Assistant at Norman Public Schools. As a valued member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs.

Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers with instructional activities and supervise students in various settings, including classrooms, off-campus activities, and non-instructional periods.
  • Prepare and create educational materials as directed by teachers, setting up equipment for instructional purposes and assisting students with assignments.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for substitute teachers, providing information and assistance as needed.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement effective student behavior management strategies and respond appropriately to challenging situations.
Requirements
  • Meet Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements, which include completing two years of college coursework, holding an associate's degree or higher, or passing the WorkKeys test, ParaPro test, or Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET).
  • Hold an Oklahoma Special Education Paraprofessional Certificate or be willing to complete Tier 2 (Special Education) Paraprofessional Requirements and obtain the certificate in a timely manner.
  • Complete training modules in PEPPER, CPR, First Aid, Universal Precautions/Bloodborne Pathogens, and maintain professional development requirements each school year.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED; college hours helpful in meeting Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements.
  • Previous work or volunteer experience with children, teenagers, or clerical experience preferred.
Benefits and Compensation

This full-time position comes with a competitive salary of $35,000 per year, based on the Teacher's Assistant Salary Schedule. The contract is for 175 days, and the FLSA Classification is Non-exempt.
