Job Title: Specialty Clinic Lead Referral Coordinator

This is a key role within the Specialty Clinic team, responsible for ensuring the smooth referral process for patients. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work independently, and have a strong understanding of medical terminology.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and implement standardized referral workflows to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
  2. Prioritize referrals based on urgency and address them in a timely manner, ensuring that patients receive the necessary care and attention.
  3. Participate in the selection, orientation, and training of referral personnel, ensuring that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties.
  4. Review referral details and expectations with ordering providers and patients, ensuring that all parties are aware of the referral process and any necessary next steps.
  5. Act as the primary point of contact for patients and specialists, addressing any questions or concerns they may have regarding referrals.
  6. Schedule appointments for testing, doctor consults, and other duties as requested by the Specialty Clinic staff.
  7. Prepare and send necessary records and imaging studies to specialists, ensuring that patients receive the necessary care and attention.
  8. Keep patients and outside facilities informed of the status of their referrals, ensuring that all parties are aware of any updates or changes.
  9. Relay and record any problems associated with referrals or patients back to the Specialty Clinic Supervisor, ensuring that issues are addressed promptly and effectively.
  10. Assign responsibilities to referral specialists, taking into account production requirements and individual capabilities.
  11. Manage incoming and outgoing referrals, tracking necessary documentation to promote team awareness and ensure patient safety.
Additional Responsibilities:
  1. Communicate with the Specialty Clinic Supervisor and nurses regarding any problems or questions with referrals.
  2. Help delegate and/or oversee job duties to Specialty Clinic referral specialists.
Expectations:

This is a non-exempt, 40-hour per week position. Regular and punctual attendance is required. Overtime may occasionally be required to complete assignments given by the Specialty Clinic Supervisor.

This role requires continual sitting and typing at a computer terminal, answering phone calls, some walking, twisting, bending, and lifting of up to 25 pounds.

Requirements:
  1. Preferred management experience.
  2. High school graduate or equivalent.

Computer experience is required, and medical terminology is preferred.

Personal Characteristics:
  1. Ability to communicate with customers and associates in a professional manner.
  2. Ability to preside over other personnel within referral management.
