Aiken, South Carolina, United States Longenecker & Associates Full time

OVERVIEW

Longenecker & Associates (L&A) is seeking a dedicated Nuclear Safety Consultant/Incident Specialist (Atmospheric Modeling Expert) to enhance our efforts in supporting critical missions.

L&A, a woman-owned small business, has been a reliable partner in facilitating essential operations across the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for over three decades. Our contributions to DOE's nuclear security and environmental remediation initiatives are driven by our commitment to excellence and the well-being of our employees, the nation, and the environment. We pride ourselves on fostering a community that effectively engages with all levels of management and government. If you are passionate about making a difference and thrive in mission-critical environments, we invite you to explore this opportunity with us.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

As part of the Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) Nuclear & Criticality Safety Engineering (N&CSE) team, you will play a pivotal role in developing nuclear safety assessments and documentation for various facilities. Your expertise in atmospheric transport and dispersion analysis will be essential for evaluating radiological and toxic chemical release scenarios. You will also provide analytical support as needed.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Conducting accident analyses for both liquid and solid waste radiological release events, considering various internal and external factors such as fires, explosions, and natural disasters.
  • Ensuring compliance with nuclear safety documentation requirements and identifying applicable controls.
  • Utilizing software quality assurance practices and operating atmospheric transport modeling tools, specifically MACCS2 and GENII, while familiarity with AXAIR is a plus.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

A Master's degree in business, construction management, technical fields, engineering, or a related discipline, accompanied by a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience, an Associate's degree with 8 years of experience, or a high school diploma with 12 years of relevant experience will also be considered.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to thrive in a diverse work environment.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment screening, including background and drug checks.
  • Commitment to uphold L&A's core values.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience providing nuclear safety support to DOE facilities.
  • Proficiency in implementing 10 CFR 830, DOE-STD-3009, DOE-HDBK-3010, DOE-STD-5506, and related standards by preparing nuclear safety documentation and calculations that support the development of Documented Safety Analyses (DSAs).
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Familiarity with MACCS2, CFAST, ALOHA, and GENII is preferred. Experience with source term calculations and additional atmospheric transport modeling software (e.g., AXAIR) is also advantageous.
  • Previous relevant experience at SRS is a plus.
LOCATION

This position requires on-site presence.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Successful candidates will be able to perform essential job functions with reasonable accommodations. This job description reflects management's assignment of essential functions and does not restrict management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

As an L&A employee, you will receive a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare (medical and dental), a 401K plan, and paid time off. We believe in investing in our employees beyond compensation, offering access to in-house training, career development, mentoring, award programs, tuition reimbursement, and more.

L&A is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, or status as a qualified individual with a disability or protected veteran.
