Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Blood Product Quality Control Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our laboratory operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of our blood products.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quality control testing on blood products to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Manufacture platelet products according to operational standards
  • Maintain equipment and perform daily quality control and preventative maintenance
  • Perform testing on proficiency testing for CAP surveys
  • Label blood products according to regulatory requirements
  • Access and pack blood donor sample tubes for infectious disease testing
  • Perform reconciliations, lot release, and client sample release of infectious disease testing
  • Perform pathogen reduction production process on blood products
  • Conduct validation procedures to qualify new production processes
  • Assist in annual revisions of procedures
  • Support trainers by coordinating and maintaining staff training and competencies
  • Maintain competencies in required tasks in Core Production and/or Hospital Services
  • Maintain equipment reagent inventory levels for daily laboratory operations
  • Delegate, monitor, and motivate team members
  • Work in partnership with Leads and Supervisor to improve communication between management and employees
  • Work weekend, holiday rotations, and on-call, as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in biology or related science preferred
  • Associate's Degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory technology or other experience may be accepted by management required
  • 1-3 years of related work experience in a healthcare setting preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret Standard Operating Procedures, maintenance instructions, and other department manuals required
  • Above-average attention to detail and problem-solving skills required
  • Demonstrates sensitivity and seeks to understand customers' perspective required
  • Ability to adjust work activities based on volume, priorities, and interruptions required
  • Flexibility to work independently and across the department required
  • Accountable to key performance indicators and department goals required
