Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Blood Product Quality Control Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our laboratory operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of our blood products.
Responsibilities
- Perform quality control testing on blood products to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Manufacture platelet products according to operational standards
- Maintain equipment and perform daily quality control and preventative maintenance
- Perform testing on proficiency testing for CAP surveys
- Label blood products according to regulatory requirements
- Access and pack blood donor sample tubes for infectious disease testing
- Perform reconciliations, lot release, and client sample release of infectious disease testing
- Perform pathogen reduction production process on blood products
- Conduct validation procedures to qualify new production processes
- Assist in annual revisions of procedures
- Support trainers by coordinating and maintaining staff training and competencies
- Maintain competencies in required tasks in Core Production and/or Hospital Services
- Maintain equipment reagent inventory levels for daily laboratory operations
- Delegate, monitor, and motivate team members
- Work in partnership with Leads and Supervisor to improve communication between management and employees
- Work weekend, holiday rotations, and on-call, as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in biology or related science preferred
- Associate's Degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory technology or other experience may be accepted by management required
- 1-3 years of related work experience in a healthcare setting preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret Standard Operating Procedures, maintenance instructions, and other department manuals required
- Above-average attention to detail and problem-solving skills required
- Demonstrates sensitivity and seeks to understand customers' perspective required
- Ability to adjust work activities based on volume, priorities, and interruptions required
- Flexibility to work independently and across the department required
- Accountable to key performance indicators and department goals required
