Job Title: Senior Medical Assistant Developmental Pediatrics

Children's Hospital Colorado is seeking a skilled Senior Medical Assistant to join our Developmental Pediatrics team. As a Senior Medical Assistant, you will provide clinical support to patients and assist care providers with clinical and administrative tasks.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare patients for health care visits by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room, providing examination gowns and drapes, and arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Verify patient information by interviewing the patient, reviewing and/or recording medical history, taking vital signs, and confirming the purpose of the visit or treatment.
  • Support patient care delivery by assisting healthcare providers during examinations, preparing laboratory specimens, performing basic testing, disposing of contaminated supplies, cleaning or preparing for sterilization of medical instruments, administering medications per policy and procedures, and telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies.
  • Anticipate and lead in balancing workloads and MA assignments and maintaining patient/clinic flow by coordinating with providers and clinic team.
  • Provide phlebotomy and advanced specimen processing when indicated.
  • Complete lab test follow-up and medical record documentation.
  • Prepare and complete medical records for visits by recording patient information, treatment, and test results.
  • Assist with patient 'MyChart' enrollment.
  • Participate in the standardized education of patients through written instructions and answering questions as directed by the provider.
  • Cross-train to multiple specialties/sub-specialties for front and back office (where applicable).
  • Perform and support patient reception, including performing check-in and check-out, registration, scheduling, and coordinating patient follow-up visits.
  • Create moderately complex patient correspondence, including completing medication administration permission forms, refill request routing, etc.
  • Participate in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) medication management.
  • Independently initiate referrals and insurance pre-authorizations.
  • Provide general office support, including phone and fax management.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly monitoring of reports and compliance.
  • Serve as a preceptor for new staff, including orientation, education, skill validation, tracking, assessment, and monitoring progress.
  • Ensure supplies are ready by monitoring inventory, stocking work areas, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
  • Participate in hospital committees as directed by leadership.
  • Serve as a mentor, expert in clinical area/skill, a safety coach/specialist, and continuously assist in reviewing and assessing peers' skill sets.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited/certified Medical Assistant program.
  • One year in a direct healthcare role.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers/CPR and certification as a Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, National Certified Medical Assistant, or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant.
