Job Summary

This is a Recent Graduate Financial Management Specialist position for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), U.S. Trustee Program (USTP), in the New Orleans, LA, Regional Office. The Financial Management Specialist will assist higher-grade analysts, auditors, and other specialists in the performance of accounting, financial analysis, and related administrative work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in performing a variety of financial related functions and administrative work in connection with financial and accounting systems within an office.
  • Develop financial reports to submit to management.
  • Utilize financial system to input information.
  • Apply and strengthen a general understanding of business operations, income tax, and bankruptcy laws and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the administrative systems and processes in use within the field office.
  • Perform a variety of specific routine financial management tasks which affects the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of bankruptcy filing information that is used in USTP reporting of financial results.
  • Reviews fee applications for accounting and financial services to help determine their reasonableness in relation to the services provided.
  • Performs a variety of analytical, technical, and administrative tasks as assigned.
Requirements
  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • You must successfully pass a security/background investigation and drug screening.
  • You may be required to complete a one-year trial/probationary period.
  • Selective Service registration is required.
  • Under Pathways Recent Graduate regulations, you are eligible only if you have graduated from an academic program of study or earned your degree within the last two years.
  • If you are appointed to a position under this program, you will need to complete a requisite number of work and training hours, based on the agreement you will complete with the hiring office and the agency Pathways program coordinator.
  • A USA Hire assessment is required.
  • Additional selections may be made from this announcement, at any time, if openings occur in other offices serviced by Justice Management Division, HR Operations.
  • You must meet all eligibility requirements by the closing date of this announcement and continue to meet these requirements throughout the hiring process.
Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Financial Management Specialist (Recent Graduates) (GS-7), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade.

  • Have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the federal service.
  • Have one full year of graduate level education.
  • Have one full year of education above high school that included courses related to the position to be filled.
  • A combination of education and specialized experience.
