Job Summary:

Christman Constructors, Inc. is seeking a skilled Field Layout Engineer - Concrete to join our team. As a Field Layout Engineer - Concrete, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of our concrete construction projects. Your primary responsibilities will include planning, setting up, and maintaining layout control for assigned construction projects, identifying unacceptable errors, and establishing building corners and permanent reference points. You will also verify existing elevations shown on drawings used on roadways and utilities, lay out column center lines and wall locations, and verify that exterior skin is not encroached by main structure. Additionally, you will plumb structural steel frame and check column alignments, set and maintain benchmarks and control lines on each floor for use in layout, and verify that workers are using proper elevations and control lines. You will also check slab for elevation and alignment during concrete pours, perform as-built surveys to verify correct placement of work and to identify conflicts between items of work, and assist other project staff in securing certified layout from independent engineering resources to establish monument and baseline control and to verify building corners and roadway entrances. You will calculate earth, rock, and concrete quantities accurately and assist with the coordination of shop drawings with contract drawings, verify accuracy, and propose solutions to discrepancies between the drawings. You will also be responsible for care, maintenance, and calibration of engineering equipment and compile and maintain project record and as-built documents. Ensures storage protocols are followed.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have three (3) years of experience in Building Layout and using Total Station. A basic understanding of Trimble and Nikon equipment is preferred. The candidate should have a deep understanding of research methodology, data analysis, and estimation metrics. Experience within General Trade Carpentry is also preferred. The candidate must be able to interact with and develop effective working relationships with a wide range of people, including internal and external customers, in different situations. The candidate should be able to work independently with minimal supervision, plan, schedule, and organize tasks while completing work within established deadlines. The candidate must have excellent written and oral skills and basic computer knowledge of Microsoft 365 including Word, Excel, and Outlook. The candidate should have a passion for team-based planning and problem-solving and a wholehearted commitment to building strong partnerships to support project goals.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

The majority of work is completed outside at the construction site and in an office trailer where the project is monitored, and daily decisions are made about construction activities. The position is often exposed to sounds and loud noises, such as construction equipment. The job requires the wearing of protective equipment when on the construction site (hardhats, safety glasses, and highly visible clothing). Temperatures and conditions may vary depending on the weather and seasons.
