Field Layout Engineer

Christman Constructors, Inc. is seeking a skilled Field Layout Engineer - Concrete to join our team. As a Field Layout Engineer - Concrete, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and precision of our construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, set up, and maintain layout control for assigned construction projects.
- Establish building corners and permanent reference points to allow back checks of building location.
- Verify existing elevations shown on drawings used on roadways and utilities.
- Lay out column center lines and wall locations, and verify that exterior skin is not encroached by main structure.
- Plumb structural steel frame and check column alignments.
- Set and maintain benchmarks and control lines on each floor for use in layout, and verify that workers are using proper elevations and control lines.
- Check slab for elevation and alignment during concrete pours.
- Perform as-built surveys to verify correct placement of work and to identify conflicts between items of work.
- Assist other project staff in securing certified layout from independent engineering resources to establish monument and baseline control and to verify building corners and roadway entrances.
- Calculate earth, rock, and concrete quantities accurately.
- Assist with the coordination of shop drawings with contract drawings, verify accuracy, and propose solutions to discrepancies between the drawings.
- Responsible for care, maintenance, and calibration of engineering equipment.
- Compile and maintain project record and as-built documents. Ensure storage protocols are followed.
Requirements:
- Three (3) years of experience in Building Layout and using Total Station.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of Trimble and Nikon equipment.
- Deep understanding of research methodology, data analysis, and estimation metrics.
- Experience within General Trade Carpentry.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
The majority of work is completed outside at the construction site and in an office trailer where the project is monitored, and daily decisions are made about construction activities. The position is often exposed to sounds and loud noises, such as construction equipment. The job requires the wearing of protective equipment when on the construction site (hardhats, safety glasses, and highly visible clothing). Temperatures and conditions may vary depending on the weather and seasons.
Requirements:
- Ability to occasionally stand, walk, sit, reach (with hands and arms), climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must be able to talk, hear, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, be able to use a telephone and operate a keyboard.
- Be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
