At Quilt, we are dedicated to transitioning homes away from fossil fuel heating to combat climate change. With over 20% of U.S. global warming emissions originating from residential heating, our goal is to facilitate the shift of more than 80 million homes to efficient electric heat pumps in the coming years.

Current heat pump systems often lack aesthetic appeal, underutilize software capabilities, and present challenges during adoption. Our vision is to create a next-generation, elegantly designed, AI-optimized heating and cooling solution that significantly outperforms existing market options.

Position Summary

We are seeking a seasoned embedded software engineer to lead a dynamic and skilled software team in delivering reliable software for our inaugural heat pump product. Ideal candidates will possess strong technical leadership abilities, hands-on experience, a commitment to electrification, and a focus on user-centric product development. The successful applicant will have a robust background in embedded systems, exceptional leadership qualities, and a passion for driving technical excellence while engaging in hands-on coding.

This role offers the chance to expand the embedded software team and take on managerial responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop embedded software systems for intricate applications, ensuring they fulfill performance, reliability, and security standards.
  • Manage the planning, execution, and delivery of embedded software projects, ensuring alignment with project timelines and organizational objectives.
  • Maintain effective communication with stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress and technical challenges.
  • Collaborate in the design and development of APIs, drivers, and services to guarantee seamless integration of embedded software with other system components, including hardware, firmware, cloud services, mobile applications, and third-party solutions.
  • Work alongside cross-functional teams, including product managers, hardware engineers, and data scientists, to gather system requirements and translate them into technical specifications. Co-develop technical solutions and assist in troubleshooting system issues, which may involve collaboration with partners requiring occasional travel.
  • Contribute to the development of the technical roadmap and long-term strategy for embedded software initiatives and general product offerings.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends to foster innovation and ensure the team remains at the forefront of technology.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Over 10 years of experience in software development, particularly in embedded systems.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership in both strategic direction and execution.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to debug complex issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, enabling effective work within cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to self-direct, identify challenges, and propose and implement solutions toward a common goal.
  • Proficient in an embedded programming language such as C or C++.
  • Solid understanding of embedded Linux.
  • Passionate about electrification and home automation.
  • Strong alignment with our mission focused on climate action and decarbonization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in embedded programming using C/C++.
  • Experience in verifying embedded software systems.
  • Familiarity with IoT technologies, protocols, and standards.
  • Experience customizing embedded Linux, such as through Yocto.
  • Knowledge of networking stacks (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread).
Compensation

Quilt values transparency and is pleased to share that the anticipated annual base salary range for this role is USD $200,000 to USD $240,000. In addition to base salary, we offer meaningful equity and top-tier benefits.
