**Ideal candidates should have an established network of broker relationships in key metro areas.**
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and nurture effective business relationships with assigned agents and brokers to attract, develop, and retain profitable business within your designated territory.
- Assess a prospect's or renewal's financial health, operational strategies, and industry trends to determine the viability of proceeding with the account and the terms under which to do so.
- Conduct a hazard analysis by leveraging knowledge and experience along with available data on the prospect's or renewal's operations and its industry, collaborating with seasoned underwriters and other departments when necessary to evaluate potential exposure to loss.
- Utilize an understanding of insurance in conjunction with identified hazards to evaluate customer and broker requests, determining acceptable coverage options by line of business that meet the customer's essential insurance and service needs.
- Based on evaluations of the prospect's or renewal's operations, anticipated hazards, losses (both primary and excess), and service requirements, apply knowledge of pricing tools, manual rates, and rating plans to develop pricing for each coverage and rating plan option that meets or exceeds target returns, taking ownership of pricing recommendations.
- Given the customer and broker requests, hazard, coverage, and loss analyses, along with the competitive landscape, propose program structures (coverage, limits/retention, rating plan/pricing, and billing combinations) that align with Business Unit goals, including long-term profitability.
- Complete all necessary documentation and account management steps.
- Collaborate across the organization—including Claims, Product Management, Loss Control, Legal, Credit, Distribution, and Production—to provide solutions and recommendations that contribute to organizational success.
Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate is a knowledgeable and disciplined underwriter with experience managing construction risks and a proven track record of growing a profitable book of business over time.
- Strong understanding of commercial insurance coverages, contracts, and underwriting guidelines, typically acquired through a related bachelor's degree and eight to ten years of commercial lines underwriting experience preferred.
- Ability to make sound business decisions based on a combination of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills to establish immediate credibility, both internally and externally; ability to present effectively to diverse audiences.
- Skilled negotiator in challenging situations; earns the trust of others and possesses a keen sense of timing.
- Insurance-specific designations (e.g., CPCU, CRIS) are preferred.
- A bachelor's or advanced degree is required.
