About the Chef:

Chef Jose Ramirez, originally from Puerto Rico, has an impressive background, having worked at some of the world's finest establishments, including El Celler de Can Roca, Per Se, Brooklyn Fare, and In de Wulf. Most recently, he was the chef and owner of the Michelin-starred Semilla in Brooklyn, a restaurant focused on a vegetable-forward tasting menu that highlights seasonal ingredients sourced from NYC's farmers markets. He has now joined the Tropezon team to leverage his expertise in elevating the culinary offerings.

Work Environment:

Tropezon is inspired by the traditional Spanish village taverns where locals gather to enjoy good company and fine Sherry. It embodies a welcoming atmosphere for both travelers and residents, creating a unique space where culinary exploration is encouraged.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and organization of cooking stations for yourself and fellow chefs.
  • Execute menu items as assigned by senior chefs.
  • Ensure the presentation of dishes meets high standards before serving to patrons.
  • Maintain food quality to the highest standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with other kitchen staff, particularly chefs.
  • Ensure timely preparation of dishes for restaurant patrons.
  • Adhere to health and sanitation protocols.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience in a professional kitchen environment.
  • Understanding of various cooking techniques and culinary requirements.
  • Familiarity with best practices for line cooking.
  • Strong communication abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • A culinary school degree is advantageous.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to grasp, turn, and hold objects with hands.
  • Capable of making quick movements between different areas of the kitchen.
