Overview:

CommonSpirit Health, a leading healthcare provider, is seeking a skilled Medical Assistant II to join our team. As a Medical Assistant II, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care and promoting a safe and welcoming environment for all patients.

Responsibilities:

As a Medical Assistant II, you will be responsible for:

  • Performing preliminary physical tests, such as measuring blood pressure, recording weight, temperature, pulse, and respirations, and other measures as directed by established clinical protocols.
  • Providing general patient care by following established standards and procedures.
  • Greeting and preparing patients for the healthcare provider.
  • Obtaining and recording vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, drug allergies, and current medications and presenting problem.
  • May be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Administering ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral, injection, topically, rectal, ophthalmic, and/or inhalant administration.
  • May perform routine tests, including but not limited to EKGs.
  • Scheduling patients for diagnostic testing and following up to ensure completion of testing.
  • Communicating with patients regarding test results and plan of care by phone or mail as directed by the physician.
  • Preparing, cleaning, and sterilizing instruments and maintaining equipment; keeping patient exam rooms stocked, clean, and orderly; disposing of contaminated items according to protocol.
  • Documenting patient plans of care, tests, and examination results in the medical record as directed by the provider.
  • Escalating non-routine issues, questions, and/or concerns to the practice manager or healthcare provider(s).
  • Ensuring safety checklists/quality controls are completed as required.
  • Providing for patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights.

Qualifications:

To be successful as a Medical Assistant II, you will need:

  • A High School Diploma (or GED equivalent) and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current/valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification required or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required if applicable.
  • BLS CPR certification required within 5 days.
  • 2 years Medical Assistant experience.
  • Ability to perform urine drug screens, administer injections.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to staff and patients.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
  • Through knowledge of the meaning and use of medical terminology and abbreviations.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situations.
  • Maintains a positive, caring attitude towards patients.
  • Good computer skills using a medical management application.
