Job Description

This is a challenging opportunity for a skilled Forensic Scientist to join our team at CAPPS, Inc. and contribute to the analysis of DNA evidence in crime scenes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct laboratory tests and analyses on DNA samples from crime scenes, including the examination and collection of stains to determine the presence of blood and other human body tissues and secretions.
  • Perform DNA testing to compare criminal evidence with samples of known origin, and evaluate, interpret, and document the results.
  • Train and mentor junior forensic scientists in laboratory procedures and techniques.
  • Represent the department at conferences and meetings, and participate in method validations and quality assurance duties.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in forensic science, including knowledge of principles, techniques, and procedures, as well as safety procedures for handling hazardous chemicals.
  • Communicate findings, orally and in writing, in a clear, concise, and effective manner, and testify in court as an expert witness.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in biology, chemistry, or forensic science, including the successful completion of sixteen (16) semester hours of chemistry, and a minimum of one (1) 3-semester-hour course each in statistics, genetics, upper division molecular biology (molecular genetics), and biochemistry.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of full-time work experience as a Forensic Scientist I or the equivalent experience in an accredited crime laboratory in the same respective forensic discipline, with documented completion of the training program.
  • A valid driver's license from the state of residence, and a forensic analyst license from the Texas Forensic Science Commission if required by the Code of Criminal Procedure.
  • Working knowledge of TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies, and procedures, as well as safety standards and best practices.
