Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Forensic Toxicology Specialist to join our team at the Texas Department of Public Safety. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for conducting complex forensic analyses and providing expert testimony in court.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct laboratory tests and analyses on biological specimens to identify the presence of alcohol, volatiles, and pharmaceutical or illicit drugs.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and expert testimony in court.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement officials and other stakeholders to provide expert analysis and support.
  • Stay current with scientific literature and advancements in forensic toxicology.
  • Perform instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological science, chemical engineering, or forensic science from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of one year of full-time work experience as a Forensic Scientist I or equivalent experience in an accredited crime laboratory.
  • Valid driver's license from the state of residence.
  • Forensic analyst license from the Texas Forensic Science Commission (if required by the Code of Criminal Procedure).
Working Conditions

The physical and environmental demands of this position include working in a laboratory setting, standing, walking, sitting, and exercising visual acuity. Ability to transfer weights of up to 25 pounds is anticipated for this position.
