This position is funded for a duration of three years, with the possibility of extension based on the acquisition of additional research funding from external sources or industry collaborations.

Purpose

Under the guidance of the Director of the Center for Generative AI, the selected candidate will independently conduct research within the Center for Generative Artificial Intelligence and its affiliated Machine Learning Laboratory. Appointments will be made within either the Department of Computer Science or the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, depending on the applicant's research focus. In addition to a competitive salary and benefits, this role includes funding for independent travel to workshops, conferences, and other academic institutions.

This multi-year initiative will host several researchers engaged in one or more of the following areas:

  • Natural Language Processing
  • Computer Vision
  • Machine Learning in Biological Sciences
  • Machine Learning in Healthcare
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and submit manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Advance collaborative projects with industry partners through the Machine Learning Laboratory's affiliate program, dedicating one day per week to industry-focused initiatives.
  • Present research findings at public forums.
  • Collaborate with researchers and students at the University.
  • Organize seminars, workshops, and other research-related activities.
Required Qualifications

A Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field with significant coursework in these disciplines. A minimum of five years of collaborative experience post-degree. Proven experience in project management within a research environment. Strong communication and teamwork skills, both verbal and written. Professional demeanor is essential.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

A PhD in a field related to computer science or computer engineering. Ten years of collaborative experience post-degree. Practical knowledge of data privacy regulations and laws to ensure confidentiality and security, as well as familiarity with IRB/Institutional approval processes.

Salary Range

$150,000+ based on qualifications.

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
