About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Retirement Benefits Director to join our team at Motion Picture Industry Pension & Health Plans. As a key member of our Senior Leadership Team, you will be responsible for overseeing the retirement benefits department, managing staff, and ensuring the smooth operation of our pension functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and manage monthly, quarterly, and annual processes, including 1099R and state tax reporting, retirement seminars, and production of annual benefit statements.
  • Review and approve benefits processes, calculations, and disbursements, including retirements, minimum distributions, QDRO and annuity conversions.
  • Lead and manage teams involved in benefit inquiries, application fulfillment, reconciliations, and monthly pension disbursements.
  • Hire, train, coach, and develop staff of 25, providing performance management and resolving benefit and payment issues.
  • Develop and present retirement education materials to participants, including contributing articles to the quarterly participant newsletter.
  • Direct and assist in handling and preparing benefit appeals to the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure delivery of excellent participant services by providing guidance, training, and development of team members.
  • Perform complex benefits analysis and approve payment actions.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 7+ years multi-employer pension benefit experience, including pension processing and third-party administration or Taft-Hartley experience.
  • Progressive level of management experience, including at least 7+ years leading and managing staff at all levels.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, with a proactive approach to building working relationships with all levels of personnel and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with changing priorities, communicate changes in process or benefits, and adhere to reporting and other deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and high standards in quality and accurate reporting.
  • Strong leadership traits to inspire and motivate the team, embracing diversity of thought, background, and experience.
  • Intermediate proficiency level in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, as well as a working knowledge of multi-employer DB and DC recordkeeping systems.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
