About the Role

The Nature Conservancy is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Associate Director of Development I, NY to join our team. This role will play a critical part in implementing and coordinating effective multi-year strategies and plans for gift prospects, including individual donors and organizations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build, solicit, and steward a portfolio of qualified donors and develop relationships to meet funding needs.
  • Develop and implement donor strategies, including direct asks, to secure gifts of $25,000 or more.
  • Listen for opportunities for gifts of assets or other non-cash gifts, such as planned gifts and trade lands.
  • Provide opportunities for donors to receive recognition and increase future giving.
  • Collaborate with the NY Development Operations team and the Worldwide Office to keep them apprised of interactions, issues, or concerns.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination.
  • Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents.
  • Experience in asking for and closing gifts of $25,000 or more.
  • Experience in managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in fundraising principles and practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience.
  • Ability to determine an individual's interests, capacity, and potential for helping the Conservancy meet its goals.
  • Ability to educate and inform prospective and existing donors about appropriate giving vehicles.
  • Knowledge of current trends in charitable giving in the areas of capital campaigns, major gifts, or planned giving.
