Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Associate Dean of Students/Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities at East Carolina University. This is a critical leadership role that requires a strong understanding of student conduct administration, program development, and staff supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for the office to manage institutional risk associated with student conduct administration
  • Author university-wide policies related to student behavior, including the Student Code of Conduct
  • Serve as the main contact for the office, interfacing with senior University officials, parents, faculty and staff, alumni, and other key constituencies on matters of student behavior
  • Oversee institution-wide compliance with student programs and activities related to Title IX
  • Conduct training and provide informational materials and consultation to students as it relates to the university's commitment to providing a safe and healthy learning environment
Leadership and Supervision
  • Train, supervise, develop and evaluate 6 professional staff members, two administrative staff members, graduate assistants, and faculty, staff, and student members of the University hearing boards
  • Receive complaints of undergraduate misconduct and assign cases to OSRR staff for timely resolution
  • Lead unit evaluative and assessment actions and assess outcomes and evaluate program objectives to ensure consistency with office, Divisional and University goals
  • Develop and implement operating procedures in response to allegations of student misconduct, including interim and emergency actions involving students
  • Evaluate and implement risk management strategies to ensure fidelity to University policies and governmental regulations
Requirements
  • Master's degree
  • Minimum of five years of post-graduate experience in higher education, including conduct administration, program development/assessment, and staff supervision
  • Demonstrated leadership in the areas of strategic planning, fiscal responsibility, and project management
  • Working knowledge in areas of federal, state, and local law and regulation affecting higher education and student life
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in higher education administration, counseling, educational policy, or related field
  • Ten or more years of post-graduate experience in higher education, including conduct administration, program development/assessment, and staff supervision
  • Experience navigating and adjudicating complex student organizational cases
  • Superior critical thinking and analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to assess, evaluate and improve unit operations and effectiveness within a student-centered lens
