Job Title: School Age Counselor

We are seeking a qualified School Age Counselor to join our team at the University of New Mexico. As a School Age Counselor, you will be responsible for providing direct supervision of a group of children in a School Age setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise a group of children and ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Plan and implement program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA core values.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings to stay up-to-date on best practices and policies.
  • Ensure that YMCA program standards and ratios are met and safety procedures are followed.
  • Provide excellent customer service to parents, children, and staff.
Requirements:
  • High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children, preferably in a School Age setting.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
  • At least 18 years of age (The age minimum may be higher depending on state law and YMCA policies).
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience with diverse populations.
Physical Demands:

The School Age Counselor must be able to plan, lead, and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings. The ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting, is also required.
