The Senior Mechanical Engineer will report directly to the Chief Mechanical Engineer and play a pivotal role in providing engineering design services within the energy and industrial processing sectors. As a key member of a diverse team of engineers and designers, you will be involved in enhancing existing facilities and contributing to new projects. Additionally, you may assist in proposals and smaller scale projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Proactively gather necessary information and support to ensure timely project completion.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in managing workload and priorities across various projects while upholding safety standards.
  • Foster and maintain strong professional relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Perform precise calculations using schematics, references, and assumptions.
  • Size equipment including pumps, tanks, non-fired pressure vessels, compressors, boilers, and heat exchangers.
  • Calculate pipe dimensions for both compressible and incompressible flow scenarios.
  • Possess foundational knowledge of pipe materials, valves, relief valves, and control valves.
  • Coordinate inquiries with equipment suppliers and review submittal documents.
  • Occasional travel to project sites or manufacturing facilities may be required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited institution.
  • A minimum of ten years of engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
  • Exhibit a strong work ethic, eagerness to learn, and be a supportive team player with excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in creating flow diagrams and P&IDs.
  • Proficient in writing equipment specifications.
  • Solid understanding of heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.
  • Familiarity with ASME B31.1 and ASME Section VIII standards.
  • Knowledge of TEMA, HI, HEI, CTI, NFPA, and other relevant equipment codes and standards.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn software such as AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, AutoCAD (P&ID), and SmartPlant 3D.

Preferred Experience:

  • Knowledge in water and wastewater treatment processes.
  • Experience in project engineering.
  • Design experience in simple-cycle or combined-cycle gas-fired power plants.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy, hydrogen gas, pipe stress modeling software (e.g., Pipe Flow, Caesar II), and thermal plant modeling tools (e.g., Theroflex, GT Pro, Steam Pro).
  • Hands-on experience working at a plant or job site.
  • Understanding of HVAC and fire protection systems.
