Veterinary Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Veterinary Technician to join our team at the Virginia Zoological Park in Norfolk, VA.
Job Summary:The successful candidate will assist in veterinary medical procedures, oversee animal hospital facilities, and provide care and daily husbandry for animals in hospital and quarantine facilities.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist in veterinary medical procedures, including surgery and treatment of animals
- Conduct blood, urine, and fecal laboratory sample analysis, radiography, and radiograph developing
- Prepare and maintain medical records, animal daily reports, inventories, and stores of medications, medical supplies, and laboratory and clinical equipment
- Care for animals by preparing individual diets, feeding, grooming, administering medications, and observing behavior
- Clean clinic and laboratory facilities, monitor and maintain appropriate environmental conditions for animals
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology from a program approved by the American Veterinary Medical Association
- One year of experience in the care and maintenance of exotic animals
- Must be a licensed veterinary technician (LVT) in the state of Virginia or have the ability to obtain licensure within 6 months of hire
- Minimum of 2 years postgraduate clinical experience as a veterinary technician
- General knowledge of technical skills, restraint techniques, anatomy, physiology, and diseases of a wide variety of species of mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians
- Knowledge of laboratory diagnostic techniques for evaluation of samples, including hematology, biochemistry, fecal examination, and cytology

This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus, paid in two increments: $2,500 upon completion of 60 days of employment and $2,500 upon completion of the probationary period.
