Job Summary:

Abacus Staffing is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Animal Care Technician to join our team at the Animal Care & Adoption Center in Norfolk, VA. As an Animal Care Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of animals in our care.

Responsibilities:
  • Clean and maintain animal enclosures in a sanitary manner.
  • Maintain overall shelter organization and cleanliness throughout the workday.
  • Ensure that outside walkways and runs are clean.
  • Provide the highest quality animal care through feeding, watering, socializing, and offering various forms of enrichment.
  • Observe animals for signs of illness; monitor sick or injured animals and assist with vet-prescribed treatment.
  • Assist the public with animal surrender or locating a lost pet.
  • Assist the public with selecting a companion for adoption.
  • Requires ability to read and understand standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to stand for long periods; to bend, crouch, and/or kneel repeatedly; to lift and carry a minimum 50 pounds.
  • Ability to read adoption contracts, registration cards, cage or kennel cards, and medical sheets or prescription dosage on medications for the animals.
  • Ability to write adoption contracts, quarantine and euthanasia paperwork, complete registration cards and time slips.
  • Ability to perform general math calculations.
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology, Veterinary Science, Animal Care, or a closely related field.
