Pathologist Assistant II

Location:
Newport Beach, CA

Duration: 3 months with possible extension

Overview:

The Pathologist Assistant II (PA II) operates under the guidance of Pathologists, focusing on non-diagnostic aspects of surgical pathology.

Key Responsibilities:

The PA II is responsible for a variety of non-diagnostic tasks in anatomical pathology, including but not limited to:
  • External examination
  • Evisceration
  • Dissection
  • Tissue selection
  • Tissue banking

In surgical pathology, the PA II engages in non-diagnostic duties such as:
  • Prosecution
  • Tissue selection
  • Tissue banking
  • Quality assurance

Additionally, the PA II gathers relevant clinical information and history, including scans, x-rays, and laboratory data.

The PA II also plays a crucial role in training new staff and students, providing guidance and support to less experienced personnel.


Involvement in the evaluation of new instruments, as well as the development, review, and revision of departmental policies and procedures, is expected. The PA II actively participates in clinical research-related activities, including correspondence and organization.
Maintaining a professional image in communication, appearance, and conduct is essential. The PA II supports the laboratory's mission and engages in continuous quality improvement processes. A solid understanding of departmental standard operating procedures, including specialized instrumentation, quality control requirements, and preventative maintenance, is necessary.
Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Education and Experience:

A Baccalaureate Degree in medical technology or a related field is preferred. Completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) program for Pathologist Assistant and certification by ASCP is preferred. A minimum of 1-2 years of prior experience as a PA is required.
