Therapeutic Radiology Specialist

Under minimal supervision, deliver radiation therapy treatments and simulations as per the directives of the radiation oncologist. It is essential to assess when treatment should be deferred pending consultation with the radiation oncologist. Additionally, assist in the planning of treatments, including tumor localization and dosimetry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to administrative and departmental policies while maintaining professionalism, appropriate attire, and confidentiality.
- Work within the designated area following relevant guidelines.
- Ensure an accurate schedule and aim to see patients promptly.
- Clearly explain procedures to patients and assess their and their families' special needs, including dietary, psychosocial, and nursing consultations.
- Prepare treatment rooms and equipment, ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for patients undergoing radiation therapy.
- Report any discrepancies in treatment setup or dose delivery to the supervising personnel or oncologist.
- Notify the appropriate personnel regarding any irregularities in equipment operation.
- Observe and implement radiation safety protocols for both patients and staff.
- Maintain precise documentation and record-keeping practices.
- Conduct weekly chart reviews on the alternate machine, rotating this responsibility with a partner.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education/Skills: Basic computer proficiency and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Graduate from an AMA-accredited School of Radiation Therapy Technology.
Experience: A minimum of one year in a hospital or treatment center setting is preferred, though candidates from an AMA-accredited School of Radiation Therapy Technology will be considered.
Licenses and Certifications: Must hold ARRT, RT (R) certification, or be registry eligible, completing registration requirements within the first year of employment. A current Medical Radiologic Technologist certificate from the Texas Medical Board is required, or if a recent graduate in training, the application must be initiated prior to hire. Maintain up-to-date licensure/registration/certification and provide necessary documentation to the institution. Current BLS certification is also required.
