Role Summary:Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, the Pediatric Emergency Room Technician is responsible for executing specific tasks and procedures related to the care and treatment of patients within the Healthier Mississippi People (HMP) facilities.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKey Responsibilities
- Accurately records vital signs and promptly communicates any changes to the supervising RN. Performs venipuncture as required.
- Conducts computerized EKGs in accordance with established protocols and ensures copies are provided for the patient's medical records.
- Alerts the RN to any unusual incidents or alterations in the patient's condition.
- Offers comfort measures to patients and their families as necessary.
- Manages the ordering, labeling, delivery, and documentation of laboratory specimens.
- Maintains a clean and well-stocked work environment.
- Contributes to the smooth operation of the unit, demonstrating a commitment to customer satisfaction through compassionate and respectful interactions with patients, families, and healthcare colleagues.
- Participates in relevant in-service training, unit meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
- The responsibilities outlined are general and illustrative of the duties performed; management reserves the right to modify or expand duties as needed.
Physical and Environmental Considerations
This role may involve occasional exposure to challenging physical environments, including high noise levels and temperature variations. It may also require handling potentially hazardous equipment and frequent exposure to biohazardous conditions, necessitating strict adherence to safety protocols. The position involves various physical activities, including occasional lifting of over 100 pounds, climbing, crawling, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Education & Experience:
A high school diploma or equivalent, combined with related education and experience totaling two (2) years, or current employment as a UMMC Student Nurse Extern. Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician is preferred. A minimum of six (6) months of experience in a Nursing Assistant/Orderly role or a similar healthcare position is advantageous.
