Job Summary:

As an Emergency Services Technician Nights at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support in our emergency department. Under the direct supervision of the charge nurse, you will assist with emergency outpatients and perform approved duties. Your responsibilities will include transporting patients, assisting with ambulation, and providing general and basic patient care. You will also be responsible for answering call lights, advising nurses of patient needs, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. Key Responsibilities:

  • Transport patients using wheelchair or stretcher within the hospital and to and from vehicles.
  • Assist patients requiring help with ambulation.
  • Provide general and basic patient care, such as positioning patients, lifting and turning, assisting in use of bedpan, commode, and urinal or bathroom.
  • Answer and respond to call lights or use intercom to determine patient needs, and advise nurse of needs beyond scope of position.
  • Clean and change stretcher linen between patients and as needed during patient visit.
  • Empty dirty laundry.
  • Label, bag, and deliver samples to lab per hospital protocol.
  • Assist patients to dress and undress and care for patient belongings, including bagging and labeling same. Care for valuable according to policy.
  • Restock linen and supplies in exam rooms, fill blanket warmer, and provide general cleaning.
  • Answer phone calls, call consulting physicians as directed by physicians and other staff members, make appointments as directed by physicians or other staff members.
  • Review charge sheets and enter charges into AS. Provide direct observation for confused or psychiatric patients.
  • Perform routine, uncomplicated treatment procedures such as splinting limbs, wound cleansing, taking vital signs, chaperone pelvic and rectal examinations.
  • Set up for suturing and procedures, dismantle procedure set appropriately.
  • Immediately report any observed changes in condition or behavior of patients and document any care given. Immediately report any unusual incidents to primary nurse, charge nurse, or nurse manager.
  • Responsible for daily checking and stocking of treatment rooms and procedural carts to ensure more efficient patient treatment.
  • Standard precautions are exercised with all patients and procedures.
  • Patients are appropriately identified prior to any intervention per hospital protocol.
  • Knowledge of institutions fire/safety/infection control programs is consistently demonstrated in practice.
  • Annual mandatory training activities are completed within established time frames.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed and within the scope of abilities.

Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in emergency department desired but not required. Previous experience as an Emergency Room Technician or Operating Room Technician is preferred.
  • Current CPR review required.
  • Employee must demonstrate ability to recognize patients' individual needs based on medical conditions, age (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, young adults, middle-aged and geriatric), limitations and planned procedures.
  • Requires ability to work well with others and to function in stressful situations, along with the ability to perform some special skills and operate special equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum one year phlebotomy experience required, preferably in a hospital or health care setting. In lieu of one year experience, successful completion of an approved phlebotomy training program may be accepted.
