Job Title: Emergency Room Technician

At Healthier Mississippi People (HMP), we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Emergency Room Technician to join our team.

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Emergency Room Technician will perform specific duties and procedures in relation to the care and treatment of patients at our University Hospitals and Clinics.

Responsibilities:
  • Accurately record vital signs and report any changes to the Registered Nurse.
  • Perform computerized EKGs according to policy and procedure, and provide copies for the patient's chart and the heart station.
  • Inform the Registered Nurse of any unusual occurrences or changes in the patient's condition.
  • Provide comfort measures to patients and family members as needed.
  • Order, label, deliver, and maintain records of lab specimens.
  • Keep assigned work areas clean and stocked.
  • Contribute to the efficient operation of the unit, demonstrating a commitment to customer satisfaction through interaction with patients, family members, and other healthcare providers.
  • Attend and participate in appropriate in-service programs, unit meetings, and quality improvement projects.
Physical and Environmental Demands:

The Emergency Room Technician will occasionally be exposed to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environments, including high noise levels and exposure to heat and cold. They will also handle or work with potentially dangerous equipment and be frequently exposed to biohazardous conditions, such as risk of radiation exposure, blood-borne pathogens, fumes, or airborne particles.

Requirements:

To be considered for this role, applicants must have a high school diploma and any combination of related education and experience equal to two years. Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician is preferred, as is six months of experience as a Nursing Assistant/Orderly or in a healthcare-related position. Certification, licenses, or registration as a Nursing Assistant (NA) is required.
