Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM

Role and Significance:

The Preschool Teacher acts as the primary educator in the classroom, responsible for planning and executing educational activities tailored for preschool-aged children or infants/toddlers within the Head Start/Early Head Start Program, adhering to federal performance standards. Engages in the Quality Assurance initiatives of HS/EHS.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Designs, develops, and executes daily lesson plans that incorporate educational and enrichment activities for preschool-aged children or infants and toddlers, ensuring compliance with federal performance standards.
  • Organizes classroom spaces into distinct learning zones that foster an effective educational atmosphere.
  • Evaluates and assesses children to identify developmental and educational needs, crafting and implementing individualized education plans that align with federal performance standards.
  • Supervises meal and snack times, classroom activities, and outdoor play to maintain a secure environment for young children.
  • Oversees food service and inventory to ensure adequate supplies.
  • Records children's progress and completes all necessary documentation in accordance with federal regulations.
  • Initiates referrals for children to the Center Director through formal documentation.
  • Organizes classroom activities for parent and community volunteers.
  • Participates in workshops and meetings to gather and share information.
  • Maintains communication with parents through conferences, written updates, and phone calls regarding their child's progress and classroom activities.
  • Conducts health assessments on children for any health issues and reports findings to the Health Coordinator.
  • Ensures that lessons and activities align with Florida Pre-Kindergarten standards.
  • Administers Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten assessments as necessary.

  • Orders necessary supplies and equipment for children with special needs.
  • Assists in the transportation of special needs children as required.
  • Inspects classrooms and grounds to ensure safety and cleanliness.
  • Reviews and submits accident and incident reports.
  • Collaborates with other staff regarding concerns related to children and families.
  • Administers First Aid and CPR as needed.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

Must be capable of lifting at least 45 pounds and providing physical assistance in transporting special needs children. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.

Educational Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education; or a bachelor's or advanced degree in any field, with coursework equivalent to a major in Early Childhood Education and experience teaching preschool-aged children.
  • Teaching credentials: state licensure or certification for Pre-K teachers recognized by the local school district or state education agency, with at least 500 hours of experience in an early childhood setting.
  • Coursework: A minimum of 18 semester credits in subjects focusing on child development, early childhood education, and related fields.
  • Completion of State of Florida Child Care Facility Training, including a Certificate of Completion for an approved 10-hour course on Developmentally Appropriate Practices for Preschoolers.
Experience:

Minimum of two years of experience teaching in Head Start, Early Head Start, preschool, or kindergarten settings.

Bilingual candidates are preferred: English/Spanish or other languages relevant to the local community.

Certification in First Aid and CPR is required within 90 days of hire, along with successful completion of a Level II background screening and drug testing prior to employment.

  • Capability to operate a motor vehicle safely.
