LSF is seeking a dedicated Education Support Specialist who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of young learners.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday.
Role Overview:
This position involves collaborating with a teaching team to create engaging activities for preschool-aged children. The specialist assists in implementing educational goals, policies, and activities aimed at achieving performance standards. Additionally, this role encourages family engagement in the educational process and may include responsibilities such as serving as a Bus Monitor during transportation activities. Participation in quality assurance initiatives is also a key component of this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in pre-service training sessions.
- Implement established curricula within the classroom environment.
- Understand and apply Head Start Performance Standards and component plans effectively.
- Collaborate with the teacher to facilitate daily activities, field trips, and the organization of classroom materials.
- Work alongside other staff to ensure the center operates smoothly, adapting as necessary to meet children's needs.
- Document weekly observations in accordance with assessment protocols.
- Utilize parent conferences to discuss individual child development and progress, while encouraging parental involvement.
- Support children in developing social skills and self-help abilities during meal times.
- Serve as a bus monitor when required, engaging children in appropriate activities during transport.
- Attend staff training sessions and meetings, as well as board and parent gatherings as requested.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for children.
- Assist the teacher in ensuring that a significant percentage of children are prepared for kindergarten.
- Support quality interactions between staff and children to achieve favorable CLASS scores.
- Employ active supervision techniques to foster positive behavior in the classroom.
- Complete required reports and maintain confidentiality regarding children and families.
- Participate in volunteer recruitment and orientation, providing guidance as needed.
- Attend all necessary training, workshops, and meetings as determined by the supervisor.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Must be capable of lifting at least 45 pounds and providing physical assistance to special needs children as necessary.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; National Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) for Preschool Endorsement preferred; completion of Florida Child Care Facility training and Developmentally Appropriate Practices training within the first year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate degree in Early Childhood Development or a related field, with relevant coursework in Early Childhood Education.
Experience: Entry-level position.
Additional Requirements:
Certification in First Aid and CPR within 90 days of hire, successful completion of background checks, and bilingual skills in English/Spanish or other local languages are preferred.
Skills:
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for early childhood education.
- Understanding of behavior modification techniques.
- Ability to communicate effectively with children and resolve conflicts.
- Competence in planning and conducting educational programs.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information.
- Proficiency in using computers and related software.
