Position Summary:
The Inclusive Education Specialist is responsible for supporting students with recognized disabilities who require specialized instructional strategies to enhance their learning experiences. This role focuses on addressing primary academic needs, including literacy and numeracy, while also considering social-emotional and functional life skills as secondary priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate and uphold compliant Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and related documentation.
- Design, execute, and modify tailored educational strategies to ensure access to the least restrictive educational environment.
- Deliver targeted interventions and structured instruction aligned with students' individual learning levels, integrating district goals and academic standards into IEPs.
- Collaborate with general education instructors to meet the instructional needs of students, facilitating their participation in core academic activities.
- Assess student performance and develop intervention plans based on comprehensive evaluations.
- Utilize data and ongoing progress monitoring to guide instructional adjustments.
- Implement suitable accommodations and modifications to support diverse learning needs.
- Oversee and mentor paraeducators in their roles.
- Provide personalized inclusion opportunities for students.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience: A valid teaching certificate in Washington state with a special education endorsement.
Additional Requirements: Consistent attendance during scheduled hours.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with students with mild to moderate disabilities.
- Expertise in conducting functional behavior assessments and creating behavior intervention plans.
- Background in supporting students affected by trauma and neglect.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus.
Employment Conditions:
- Successful completion of a criminal background check.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and insurance.
- Maintain a current CPR/First Aid certification approved by the district within 90 days of employment.
- Complete district-approved Right Response training at the advanced level and maintain certification through annual recertification.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Familiarity with school board policies and procedures.
- Proficiency in various computer systems and software applications.
- Understanding of evidence-based classroom and behavior management techniques.
Abilities:
- Plan, implement, and assess individualized educational programs.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, parents, and community members.
- Utilize technology effectively and adapt to new software.
- Work efficiently under pressure and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Employ de-escalation strategies and interventions in crisis situations.
- Adhere to school board policies and administrative procedures.
- Communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats.
- Foster positive relationships with colleagues and service providers.
- Promote teamwork and collaboration within the district.
- Maintain ethical and professional standards, ensuring confidentiality.
- Engage effectively with a diverse community, respecting cultural differences.
