Senior Mechanical Engineer Job Description

PTS Advance is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Ellicott City, Maryland or Richmond, Virginia. The successful candidate will be responsible for engineering, design, coordination, client communications, and construction administration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop mechanical systems for industrial utilities and HVAC systems in various industries, including food and beverage, personal care, and advanced technology.
  • Develop and manage all aspects of mechanical design, including system design, duct sizing, pipe sizing, equipment sizing, and specifications.
  • Contribute to the preparation of construction documents, including drawings, specifications, calculations, and equipment datasheets.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, such as IBC, IMC, IPC, ASME, ASHRAE, API, and NFPA.
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations using software such as Trace.
  • Perform head loss calculations using software such as AFT Fathom/Arrow.
  • Provide technical support during construction, including problem-solving for field oversights, reviewing vendor submittals, performing field inspections, and addressing RFIs.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 12-17 years of relevant industry experience, with a salary range of $130,000-$160,000.
  • 18+ years of relevant industry experience, with a salary range of $160,000-$180,000.
  • Experience leading teams of engineers and designers on design projects.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (or ability to obtain PE within the first year of employment in Virginia and/or Maryland).
  • US Citizenship required for client projects.
  • Recent HVAC design experience in industrial manufacturing facilities is essential.

Desired Skills and Credentials:

  • Significant experience with industrial utility and HVAC systems.
  • Knowledge of Building Codes, including Mechanical Code and Plumbing Code.
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE, ACGIH, and SMACNA Standards.

Physical Requirements:

  • Travel to project sites and corporate offices, with occasional overnight travel.
  • Ability to visit industrial sites and construction sites for inspections and observations, which may be physically demanding.
  • Meets expectations for attendance and punctuality.
  • May be required to lift up to 20 pounds.
