GENERAL SUMMARY:


Under the guidance and oversight of the designated Registered Nurse (RN), the Nurse Assistant carries out specific patient care responsibilities to ensure the safety and comfort of patients. This role involves contributing insights to assist the RN in the planning and execution of patient care strategies. The Nurse Assistant is trained to respond to urgent situations following established protocols and is encouraged to engage in ongoing professional development. Adherence to the Henry Ford Health System Team Member Standards of Excellence is expected in all interactions.

Key responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

- Performing blood draws
- Monitoring vital signs
- Conducting venipuncture and chemstick procedures
- Participating in team rounds
- Identifying and communicating concerns related to patients, staff, and self to the responsible RN

UNIT DESCRIPTION:


The 5th Floor unit accommodates 44 beds, primarily serving as a hospice unit. The patient demographic ranges from young adults to seniors. Sixteen of these beds may be occupied by telemetry patients. Surgical patients requiring inpatient monitoring are also cared for in this unit. The focus is on providing comfort to patients at the end of life, utilizing Palliative and Hospice Care resources.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Certification as a Nursing Assistant is preferred.
  • Completion of a Nurse Assistant training program (titles for similar programs may vary; e.g., Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Patient Assistant Technician (PAT) but fulfill the same role).
  • OR Currently enrolled in a nursing program with successful completion of the Fundamentals of Nursing course.
  • OR Foreign-trained and licensed RN who has relocated to the United States without a Michigan RN license.
  • OR Completion of a Medical Assistant program with or without experience.
  • OR A minimum of one (1) year of prior experience in a Nurse Assistant, PCT, PAT, or comparable role.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • Completion of BLS Heart Saver Certification during orientation.
