Job Title: Engineering Project Manager

At the City of Chesapeake, we are seeking a highly skilled Engineering Project Manager to lead our capital improvement projects. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for managing complex projects from design to procurement phases.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee engineering designs for various transportation and stormwater projects, ensuring compliance with established engineering practices and local/state regulations.
  • Manage the development of project contract documents, including construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Provide administrative control, including budgetary, scheduling, and quality control/quality assurance for all projects.
  • Coordinate project implementation by interacting with internal and external agencies and making recommendations for engineering and project success.
  • Research and negotiate techniques for project planning, accomplishment, and problem resolution.
  • Assist with state/federal grant applications and investigate and respond to inquiries and concerns from contractors, staff, and the general public.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in construction, civil engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of six years of relevant, full-time equivalent experience.
  • Valid driver's license and a driving record that meets City Driving Standards.
  • Virginia Professional Engineer license or a Professional Engineer license from another state with the ability to be licensed in Virginia within six months of employment.
  • Virginia DEQ SWM Plan Reviewer and/or Program Administrator certification within 12 months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
