Job Summary

The City of Chesapeake is seeking a highly skilled Transportation Project Manager to oversee the management of complex capital improvement projects. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for managing projects from design to procurement phases, ensuring successful delivery within schedule and budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee engineering designs for various transportation and stormwater projects, working closely with project engineers and consultants to ensure conformance with established engineering practices and local/state regulations.
• Manage the development of project contract documents, including construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates, ensuring compliance with procurement regulations and contract provisions.
• Provide administrative control, including budgetary, scheduling, and quality control/quality assurance for all projects.
• Prepare, approve, evaluate, and maintain related contract information, such as correspondence, reports, project invoices, contract modifications, proposals, and budgets.
• Coordinate project implementation by interacting with internal and external agencies, making recommendations for engineering and project success.
• Research and negotiate techniques for project planning, accomplishment, and problem resolution.
• Assist with state/federal grant applications and investigate/respond to inquiries and concerns from contractors, staff, and the general public.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in construction, civil engineering, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of six years of relevant, full-time equivalent experience.
• Valid driver's license and a driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards.
• Virginia DEQ SWM Plan Reviewer and/or Program Administrator certification within 24 months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Virginia Professional Engineer license.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
