Job Title: Substation Project Engineer

Electrical Consultants, Inc. Our experience includes system voltages from 4.16 kV through 765 kV.

Responsibilities:
  • Conceptual, preliminary, and final detailed design of new, upgraded, and expanded substations, including material procurement, construction, and commissioning/startup support through energization.
  • Development and delivery of physical, electrical, civil, and communication design studies, calculations, drawings, exhibits, and specifications.
  • Assist the Project Manager in the planning and execution of best-in-class projects, including client and stakeholder coordination, training, and mentoring of design staff, project quality assurance, and oversight of design engineers, designers, drafters, and support staff.
  • Coordinate the completion of specialized tasks with ECI's subject matter expert discipline groups, such as Distribution Studies, Transmission Studies, Grounding Studies, Protection (relay coordination and settings), Civil Engineering, Communication (SCADA Integration), Transmission & Distribution Engineering, Environmental Planning, Surveying, Lands/Right-of-Way, and Project Management/Controls.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, 6+ years' project and design engineering experience, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organization and planning skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Commitment to quality and accuracy.
  • Willingness to meet fast-paced project schedules.

A PE license is preferred.

The successful applicant must have an advanced knowledge of power engineering principles, be expert regarding applicable codes, standards, and design tools, possess basic project management execution skills, and have the ability to oversee and direct design personnel on a project team.

Experience in the utility or merchant power industry is a plus.

The successful applicant may be subject to client-mandated drug and background checking.

Occasional travel/driving is required; therefore, the successful applicant will be subject to ECI's auto insurance carrier requirements.
