The Recreation Program Assistant is essential in the delivery and management of community recreation initiatives. Operating under general oversight, this position aids in the design, execution, and supervision of activities associated with municipal recreation programs. Depending on qualifications, candidates may be assigned to either Level 1 or Level 2.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning, organization, and execution of recreational activities.
- Prepare facilities for scheduled recreation programs, which includes setting up equipment and ensuring the safety of the program environment.
- Engage with participants and supervise activities to guarantee a positive experience.
- Handle participant registrations and manage related administrative duties.
- Ensure all program materials and equipment are accounted for and maintained in good condition.
- Collaborate with the Recreation Coordinator or other supervisory personnel in program planning and execution.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and orientations.
Additional Responsibilities for Level 2
- May take on a leadership role over Level 1 Assistants and oversee specific program activities.
- Assist with more intricate program planning and execution.
- Act as a point of contact in the absence of supervisory staff.
Position Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant work experience is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Specific Qualifications for Level 2
- Additional experience in facilitating recreation programs or a related field.
- Proven leadership abilities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods, move equipment, and engage in physical activities with participants.
- Capability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
