The Patient Care Coordinator will support healthcare providers with various facets of patient care (including administrative, environmental, and organizational duties) to ensure optimal patient satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
· Escort patients to examination or procedure rooms.
o Assist patients as necessary with mobility, transfers, dressing, specimen collection, and preparation for examinations.
o Gather patient information/history, measure vital signs, and conduct screenings as per provider protocols.
o Communicate instructions to patients and their families.
· Manage the sending and receiving of patient medical records in compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other relevant regulations.
· Acquire lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral details.
· Complete necessary forms and requisitions.
· Organize and maintain patient charts to ensure all information is accurately completed and filed.
o Schedule patient appointments.
o Confirm insurance coverage and patient demographic details.
· Prepare patient examination rooms, setting up instruments and equipment according to departmental standards.
o Sanitize examination/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to uphold infection control protocols.
o Oversee inventory of supplies; restock examination/procedure rooms as needed.
· Monitor schedules and manage patient flow efficiently.
· Respond to calls and provide relevant information, including patient education as directed.
· Execute clinic procedures in accordance with established policies and protocols.
o Conduct phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one laboratory tests.
o Assist healthcare providers during procedures.
· Adhere to the requirements of applicable regulatory bodies (e.g., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). Maintain strict confidentiality regarding medical records and other sensitive information. Follow all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
· Under the guidance and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medications and vaccines when appropriate.
· Perform additional front office tasks as required.
· Operate in alignment with system-wide competencies and behaviors.
· Undertake other duties as assigned.
Qualifications for Patient Care Coordinator:
· A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
· Basic computer skills and familiarity with medical terminology, examination, diagnostic, and treatment room responsibilities are essential.
Qualifications for Senior Patient Care Coordinator:
· A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
· Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Program or an equivalent hospital program (LPN/RN/EMT) is required.
o OR successful completion of a certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA).
o OR a minimum of one year of patient care experience is required.
o Must demonstrate responsibility and proficiency in three specific practice categories.
· Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic, and treatment room responsibilities are essential.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
All clearances must be current and dated within 90 days of hire.
· Basic Life Support (BLS)
· Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
· Medical Assistant certification
· Act 33 with renewal
· Act 34 with renewal
· Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
