Position Overview:
Under the guidance of the Senior Director of Risk Services, this role is pivotal in delivering consultative expertise to LA Rims member districts across various domains including risk assessment, risk mitigation, risk transfer strategies, safety protocols, loss prevention, and control measures. Leveraging specialized knowledge in these areas, along with a comprehensive understanding of insurance and coverage intricacies, the Consultant will support members in identifying vulnerabilities, monitoring programs, determining coverage needs, reviewing contracts, and crafting tailored services and initiatives aimed at minimizing risks for members and their stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Risk Services Consulting:
- Engage with key district personnel regularly to foster strong relationships.
- Provide strategic advice on safety, loss control, risk management, and training tailored to educational operations.
- Review contractual agreements upon request to offer insights on insurance and indemnification clauses.
- Guide members on inquiries related to general and auto liability, property, workers' compensation, and cyber insurance programs.
- Assist members in executing risk control strategies as recommended by external evaluators.
- Develop comprehensive Risk Action Plans to implement loss-driven risk services and track progress towards members' risk management goals.
- Analyze member loss data and formulate strategies to address underlying issues.
- Research compliance requirements (Cal-OSHA and California Educational Code) to provide informed guidance on risk management and loss control matters.
- Create informative content for ASCIP Risk Alerts, Guidelines, and other publications.
- Support members in accessing information regarding training programs offered by ASCIP.
Delivery of Risk Control Services:
- Collaborate with LA Rims members to identify optimal methods for loss reduction and allocate necessary resources for effective service delivery.
- Oversee the execution of specialized risk control services provided by external vendors to meet member needs.
- Ensure accuracy, quality, and timeliness of contracted services through regular reviews and follow-ups.
- Monitor charges for contracted services to confirm compliance with agreed rates.
- Provide oversight for assigned ancillary programs.
Communications and Customer Service:
- Respond promptly and courteously to member inquiries through various communication channels.
- Maintain comprehensive records and documentation to track member interactions and service utilization.
- Collaborate with fellow risk service consultants to enhance program offerings.
- Assist in preparing reports for management as required.
- Participate in professional development activities related to risk control.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field related to risk management or a discipline that supports success in this role is essential, along with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in risk management or loss control. A master's degree and/or additional professional certifications are highly advantageous. Experience with public entities, insurance, risk management, or risk pooling is also preferred.
