Job Title: Mental Health Technician PRN

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Mental Health Technician PRN to join our team at Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health. As a Mental Health Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to children and adolescents with behavioral and mental health concerns.

Job Summary:

The Mental Health Technician will serve as a role model for patients/residents, promoting socially effective values, attitudes, and behaviors. You will ensure a safe and positive environment throughout the facility, contributing to the formulation, implementation, and revision of individual treatment plans through regular communication with the multidisciplinary treatment team.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and facilitate group sessions for skill acquisition and behavior reduction plans
  • Observe, collect, and record patient/resident behaviors, write progress notes, and communicate with the treatment team
  • Assist with behavior management and crisis intervention, creating learning opportunities and utilizing intervention techniques
  • Enhance communication among staff through shift reports, team logs, and staff meetings
  • Assist with facility staffing needs, supporting continuity of care and services
  • Conduct continuous rounding to assess and monitor patients/residents, preventing or responding to potential crisis situations
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree in Human Services, Early Childhood Education, Social Sciences, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience working directly with children in a therapeutic setting, or QMHP-C certification and no experience
  • Ability to de-escalate situations, strong written and verbal skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Early Childhood Education, Social Sciences, or related field
  • QMHP-C certification
  • 4+ years of child and adolescent in-patient psychiatry experience
