Job Summary

This is a full-time Clinical Nurse Coordinator position in the CPG Surgical Specialists department. The clinical coordinator provides leadership around clinical care standards and expectations. They provide expert care and education to patients in the clinical setting, act as a patient advocate, leader/mentor, and positive role model for assistive personnel. The clinical coordinator is knowledgeable in clinical nursing procedures, disease processes, interventions, and pharmacological agents. They will help orient new clinical staff to the department, help with competencies and other forms to ensure quality care for our patients. The clinical coordinator will work closely with providers and teammates, answering phones as needed and help direct clinical work flow. They will assist with quality assurance and process improvement initiatives in other offices as requested.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet with leaders of applicable departments on a regular basis to discuss staff educational and development needs for designated areas. Perform needs assessments, gap analyses, planning, implementation, and evaluation of learning activities. Participate in designated departments' briefs, huddles, and debriefs as applicable and appropriate.
  • Assess, plan, coordinate, develop, and evaluate appropriate competency-based orientation and continuing education programs that will enhance the knowledge base and skill levels of orientees and experienced clinical care providers in the adult women's/newborns care practice areas. Round in departments to ensure education outcomes are achieved.
  • Maintain clinical expertise through hands-on, in-unit demonstrations of skills and competencies and maintaining knowledge currency of women/newborns evidence-based practice. Meet the job requirements of the Clinical Practice RN.
  • Maintain a mechanism for staff members on all shifts to solicit assistance for problem-solving patient care issues through in-house resources, on-line learning and nurse practice resources, and other appropriate mechanisms of communications.
  • Establish and maintain effective communications and rapport with Medical Staff members in a manner that is receptive to their needs and concerns, thus providing for collaborative working relationships, especially as pertains to staff development. Encourage and seek out the assistance of the Medical Staff in participating with educational endeavors for staff members.
  • As a Clinical Education center-assigned staff member, manage allocated programs of responsibility in the most efficient and effective manner. Serve as a clinical education representative and subject matter expert on hospital committees as assigned. Review and inform policies and procedures as assigned.
  • Actively participate in continuing education. Participate in required certifications (ie. BLS) applicable to women's/newborns care nursing. Demonstrate high-level computer skills for research, utilize the learning management system, and maintain proficiency of the electronic medical record. Assist the Senior Clinical Educator and Senior Director in maintaining currency of department-level policies.
  • Maintain membership in appropriate/applicable professional organizations as well as networks with peers to keep abreast of the current professional practice and quality-driven environment as it affects clinicians and the Medical Center.
  • Utilize quality data to identify and define concerns/problems and develop appropriate in-services or continuing education programs to address. Collaborate with IT and Quality professionals to assure nursing documentation systems lend to evidence-based best practices.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, comply with the policies and procedures of the Medical Center and the Division of Nursing, and demonstrate a commitment to the key values and philosophy of the hospital.
  • Promote evidence-based nursing practice, which is grounded in the organization's nursing philosophy, involves the patient and caregivers/significant others with respect to their values, cultural differences, preferences, and expressed needs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing required.
  • RN Licensed to practice in the State of Montana.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required, as well as computer skills.
  • Must obtain BLS for Healthcare Provider within 3 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in nursing or Education preferred.
  • Experience in an outpatient surgery clinic or setting preferred.
