Job Summary

The Payroll Coordinator will be responsible for preparing the County's bi-weekly and monthly payrolls, verifying and maintaining the automated timekeeping system, creating payroll deductions for payment, reviewing and approving personnel actions, and preparing reports associated with payroll expenditures.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, supplemented by college-level courses in bookkeeping or accounting, and 4 years of experience in all phases of payroll processing. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access software, as well as experience with automated payroll and time/attendance systems, is required. Thorough knowledge of accepted payroll principles and practices, tax deposit rules and regulations, and general knowledge of the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) are also necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with employee benefits and generally accepted accounting principles specifically those related to payroll processing is highly desired. Experience using Munis financial software and Kronos time and attendance is also highly desired.

Working Conditions

The Payroll Coordinator will be expected to remain at the worksite or report to the worksite in accordance with the department's standard operating procedures or as notified by a supervisor in the event of an emergency or inclement weather conditions.

Physical Demands

The Payroll Coordinator will be required to operate a variety of automated office machines, including a computer, adding machine, fax machine, copier, etc. The position involves some stooping or bending to retrieve files, writing to take notes on claims, carrying printouts, books, and files, and pushing and pulling drawers open and closed. The work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for periods of time.
